What a way to bring in the new year! For my first shoot of 2017 I had the pleasure of travelling over to Kent, to meet Abbie and her gorgeous mare, Lola, for THE most beautiful winter shoot we could have hoped for.

Honestly, sometimes, everything just seems to work in sync and fall into place, for create the perfect setting and that’s what happened for Abbie’s shoot. The fact that it was Abbie’s eighteenth birthday on the day of our session made it even more special!

Lola is a thirteen year-old Hanoverian x Irish Draught and she was an absolute superstar. He showname is ‘Poledancer’, which I think it just brilliant. However, she was bred to jump, so I think it’s more a play on the fact that she dances OVER poles, rather than up against them. However, she definitely likes to be centre of attention and just loved to pose. She behaved like an angel throughout our shoot, despite the icy temperatures.

Abbie and Lola enjoy cross country and showjumping together, but Abbie’s mum, Hayley tells me that she’s trying her best to turn Lola into a dressage diva, with some success, including being placed at the BRC Nationals, in September.

I love the fact that Lola is a real family horse. Mum, Dad, Abbie and her younger sister all ride her and she loves to do a bit of everything, including hacking.

This shoot was just so perfect. We had that gorgeous winter light that I bang on about all the time, a crisp, lingering frost, and just LOOK at my two models. They were totally natural, absolutely stunning and such a pleasure to work with. I could have photographed them all day long and I had real trouble picking just a few for this sneak peek.

Thank you so much to Abbie and her parents, for having me, and I hope you had a fabulous birthday evening, Abbie!
