Now, I don’t think Abi will mind me prefacing this write-up by saying that her pony Bracken, was quite a pickle, on this shoot. It’s a wonder poor Abi had any toes left after the amount they got trodden on. And it turns out, that just before our shoot, Bracken came into season, which definitely put the devil into her.
Bracken the Diva, as I’m now calling her, 😉 is five year’s old and Abi has owned her for a year and a half. Apparently, 90% of the time she is as sweet as they come, but she chose the day of our shoot to give Abi a bit of a work out. Lol.
Good job she’s pretty, right? Look at that face. Butter wouldn’t melt.
Abi and Bracken have done some unaffiliated showjumping together, with much success and they are currently focusing on Bracken’s flatwork. They also have access to beautiful hacking around their yard, in Gosfield, near Braintree, so enjoy making the most of that.
Sadly, fifteen year-old Abi is getting taller by the day and knows that she will soon need something bigger than Bracken, so she wanted to make sure that we captured some beautiful memories, to keep.
Karen, Abi’s mum, tells me that Bracken is a superstar to take out to shows and is always the pony that just stands and watches whilst other ponies spook at mystery monsters. ” I swear, if she could roll her eyes at them, she would,” Karen says.
However, Bracken’s one weakness is her belly and she does love her food. As she proved on our shoot, she will do anything to get to it, including tread on Abi’s toes and march her way to the juciest grass!
I wanted to write about Bracken being a little madam, because I know that a lot of my clients worry that their horses will be tricky on the day of the shoot. And Abi and Bracken are excellent proof that you can get stunning images, even if your pony doesn’t behave like the perfect model you hope for them to be.
Abi, it may not have felt as calm and peaceful as you may have wanted, but I hope you’ll agree that the photos tell a different story. You two look totally gorgeous!! Thank you for being such a trooper!
