A little while back I made a quick trip over to Welwyn, to meet Charlotte and the two most important men in her life.
We already had to reschedule this shoot once, due to bad weather and then on the day, the forecast looked suspect once again. But we decided to go ahead, because Charlottes work schedule can be difficult to work around, and despite a little spot of rain, we still managed to get some fab shoots.
I’ve finally given up hoping for summer to arrive and I’m just forging ahead regardless, lol.
Charlotte has had her Thoroughbred cross Connemara, Charlie, for nearly five years. He is fifteen years-old and a bit of a monkey at times. The pair have done a little bit of everything together, but Charlie’s first love is showjumping. In fact, he got quite the strop on when he realised that he was having a photoshoot instead of going jumping, despite being all plaited up, lol.
Charlotte stumbled across Charlie when she was visiting a dealers, to look at a different horse, but fell in love with him instead. She tells me he can be quite hot headed and they’ve certainly had their ups and downs. And how cheeky is that little face?! 😉
Sadly, cheeky Charlie has been diagnosed with kissing spines and arthritis in his hock, so Charlotte says she will continue to compete him lightly while he is still comfortable and willing, and hopes to enjoy a couple more years of fun with him before he has to retire. But she says he owes her absolutely nothing.
“He’s taken me from 60cm to 1m, jumping and has given me a sticky seat and lots of fun. He’s the most amazing horse I could have ever asked for and is always there for a cuddle when I need one.”
Thank you so much to Charlotte, her very helpful boyfriend and the gorgeous Charlie, for having me, for my chocolate muffin (yes, I did cave and eat it!) and for being great sports and braving the British weather!
(And, lastly, can we just take a moment to give those shoes the love and appreciation they deserve!)
