A couple of weeks ago I headed back over to a pretty little yard in Braintree, called Lyons Hall Livery, to meet Charlotte and her patchy boy, Jack. Every time I go to this yard it seems to be super warm and sunny, so I think it must be a lucky location for me.
Charlotte has owned ten year-old, Irish Sports Horse, Jack, or ‘Puzzle Me’, since April 2015. So they’ve not been together for too long, but have been quite a lot in their short partnership, so far.
Just one month after buying Jack, Charlotte had an accident which put her out of action and out of the saddle for an entire year. Thankfully, Charlotte’s wonderful friends at the yard were able to pitch in and help keep Jack ticking, by riding and lunging him. And when she was able, Charlotte would ground school him herself.
Despite her time off and resulting nerves, Charlotte was determined not to give up and persevered through her confidence crisis, to overcome her fears. She tells me that thanks to her great trainer and friends, she was able to get through it.
She and Jack are due to make the big move to Warwick, this September, where Charlotte will be studying for an equine science degree. Jack will be staying at uni with her.
Charlotte says, “Jack is more than a horse to me and although it’s cliche, he really is my best friend.” She tells me that she hopes to just get out and do some sponsored rides, in the future and really just enjoy him.
And he really is such a sweetheart. He is full of cuddles and kisses for everyone he meets and although he is a little quirky and nervous at times, he’s clearly got a heart of gold. I can totally see why Charlotte is so in love with her boy.
Thank you guys so much for having me, Charlotte and to your love friend for her help. Jack was such a character and a pleasure to photograph.
