Last year I visited Albury Equestrian Centre, in Albury, Surrey, to photograph Ella and Daisy. Last week, I went back to meet Fenella and Percy.
Percy is an eleven year-old, coloured, Irish Cob cross and has been owned by Fenella since he was four years old, soon after he came over from Ireland. (Honestly, I feel like every horse I meet lately has come over from Ireland! Lol!)
And Percy is quite the character. When he heard that he was having a photoshoot, he thought it’d be helpful to cover himself in dirt, scratch his coat off and accessories with hay and anything else he could find. Boys will be boys, right?!
So, when I arrived, I found Fenella in a bit of a panic, trying to get her mostly white horse clean. Luckily, she managed it and I think you’ll agree that Percy looks fab.
Fenella and Percy enjoy running around the heath together, exploring the stunning countryside that surrounds their livery yard. They have weekly dressage lessons, too. Fenella tells me that Percy has some pretty snazzy moves, when he feels like it, but they prefer not to be judged, lol, so have decided to keep their moves a secret, at home.
I also found out that Percy loved to eat. In fact, he decided by himself that all photographs would probably look better with his head down in the grass, or a branch hanging out of his mouth. Fenella and I had a job to pursuade him otherwise, but eventually we prevailed.
Fenella tells me that her and Percy’s plans are to simply grow old together. He is her first horse and she said she hopes he will also be her last, as she wants to hack into the sunset together, for their happy ever after! I love that idea!
Thank you, Fenella, for having me, and for being a great sport when Percy tried to test your stability in high heels. I had a lovely afternoon with you guys and it was a pleasure to meet you!
