Last weekend, Sam and I took a little trip over to Hatfield House for our first experience of The Game Fair. And it seems like everyone and their dog (quite literally!) were there too. I know so many people that went this year and having experienced it for myself, I’m not surprised.
This is a really fab, family day out. It has a little something for everybody.
The shopping is second to none, with all the of the best country brand names displaying their wares, hosting special show offers and holding giveaways to compete for the most exposure.
There are various equestrian displays, including the ever popular Shetland Grand National, a vaulting display, the hunt parade, a polo demonstration and more.
There are, of course, more gun dogs than any one person has ever seen in one place. And watching them work is absolutely spellbinding. Such control and discipline.
And the food show was nothing short of overwhelming. Rows upon rows of local produce and treats for all. It made choosing lunch something of a feat.
Sadly, on the day we visited, despite a dry forecast, the rain absolutely fell down. So, naturally, this did put a bit of a dampener (no pun intended) on our day. We would have loved to have sat for hours on the grass, watching the gun dogs show off their skills and shopped until we dropped. But our soggy feet and the boggy ground put an end to out otherwise lovely day out.
However, we will certainly be back next year, without a doubt.
I was there to work with both Hiho Silver and Fairfax and Favor. And also thoroughly enjoyed meeting the likes of Mackenzie & George, A Girl About Country and It’s a Country Life. A day of both business and pleasure, for sure.
