It was originally Jo who got in touch to book a photoshoot. And I’d already heard of her pony, Too Smart (who we’ll get to later) through coloured showing, as he’s a bit of a superstar. Jo and Hilary have their own set of coloured ponies and also run Sellet Estate Stables livery yard. And Freddi is their yard manager.
As a thank you for all of her hard work, Freddie rides and competes a couple of Jo and Hilary’s horses, treating them as her own. So Freddi had photographs done with Cindy and Birdie.
The little plaited pony, is Cindy, or ‘Standinghat Cinderella’. She is four years olf and was only backed earlier this year. The hope is that she will go out under saddle as a novice, next year.
And then there was Birdie, the show cob, who is Freddi’s main horse. What a beautiful girl!
‘Lady Bird I’ was found over in Ireland, by coloured pony producer, Sue-Helen Shuttleworth. Jo says. ‘Susie definitely had a good imagination when she bought her, as you wouldn’t believe now she’s the same scruffy, gangly horse that came over from Ireland 2 and a half years ago.’ And look at what a gorgeous girl she’s turned into.
Birdie is six years old and has been allowed to mature slowly. This year is her first under saddle and she has qualified for the Royal International Horse Show, as well as winning quite a few CHAPS classes.
Jo, Hilary and Freddi would ultimately love to get Birdie to Horse of the Year Show, so that is their aim for her.
Next up, are Jo and her whole gang of ponies. And I know I shouldn’t have favourites, but wait until you meet Thomas!!
