At the beginning of the week, after having our previous date snowed off at the weekend, I went out to Harrietsham in Kent, to meet Keira, her mum, Simone and their pony super little coloured pony, Matisse.
Keira is twelve years-old and has owned sixteen year-old Matisse for a year. They actually stable at the home of their friends, who I photographed a couple of summers back, so it was lovely to re-visit this gorgeous location.
Matisse’s showname is Madame Matisse, which definitely suits her down to the ground. Some ponies are happy to pose, but only on their terms, and Matisse most definitely fell into this category. She’d give us these beautiful faces and poses, but we had to be quick because after a few seconds, she’d decide she was done with that particular shot and she’d be moving on at her own pace. Lol!
And she certainly seems like a real fun type of pony. One that every little girl should have, growing up. Simone tells me that Keira and Matisse have competed locally at showjumping, up to 70cm and have also tried their hand at cross country, which they’re hoping to do more of.
However, Keira comes from quite a busy family, with her brother winning karting championships across the country, so finding time to fit everything in is quite a stretch.
Nevertheless, Keira and Matisse most enjoy having fun together and making memories. And it seems to me like they’re pretty good at that!
