I love the school holidays, because it means I get to photograph lots of gorgeous little girls (and sometimes boys) and their super cute ponies!
And last week I went over to the beautiful village of Coggeshall to meet Lara and her best friend, Rosie. I just loved everything about this shoot… The gorgeous weather, the pretty locations, the lovely outfits Lara wore… Not to mention how freakin’ adorable my models were together!!
Rosie is a fifteen year-old, 12.2hh, Welsh cross and Lara has had her on loan for a year. Leigh, Lara’s mummy, tells me that Rosie has taught Lara so much in this short time. And I can attest to the fact that Lara is certainly very confident in handling and riding Rosie all on her own.
Together, Lara and Rosie have tried their hand at mounted games, showjumping, cross country, Pony Club camp, hacking and are just about to enter their first polocross tournament, next weekend, up in Warwickshire!
Leigh describes Rosie as a ‘been there, got the t-shirt’ pony, as she has taken many children through pony club and taught them how to ride. Apparently she does also sometimes think that she knows best and she and Lara have learnt to compromise.
To me, this is the type of pony every little girl needs to grow up with. A super-safe, bombproof pony who knows the ropes, but still has enough attitude to put you through your paces. I think ponies like Rosie, who do such an incredible job of turning children into brave, capable jockeys, are worth their weight in gold!
Lara and Rosie are very much looking forward to camp again this year, which is the highlight of their busy calendar, and a summer of fun together. Leigh says that she is praying Lara doesn’t grow too quickly. “I dread the day this very special pony is outgrown. In fact, it brings a tear to my eye just thinking about it…”
Thank you so much to Leigh, Lara, Lara’s brother Jacob who was very obliging when made to pose with his sister and of course, Rosie the pony, who I just fell in love with. What an absolute superstar!
