I can never decide whether it’s easier, or harder, to photograph somebody you know. Sometimes it can make things awkward, because they don’t know you in a professional capacity, but in Laura’s case, it just made me feel like I’d had a lovely day out, and not done any work at all.
I know Laura through my best friend, Natalie, as they went to Writtle together. I’ve also photographed her and her old horse Bumble.
So when she asked to book a shoot with her newest addition, Scrumpy, Nat and I decided to travel up to Hertford to see her and make a nice day of it, rounding our shoot off with a spot of lunch.
And what a gorgeous day it was! We had highs of 17 degrees and not a cloud in the sky.
Laura and Scrumpy are a fairly new partnership. He is a 16.3hh KWPN, by Ungaro, a 1.40m showjumper and out of Ilante, a Grand Prix dressage mare.
These guys are currently training for 1.20m and hope to progress higher in the future. Laura tells me that Scrumpy will turn his hooves to both dressage and jumping, has evented up to BE100 and looks after her at every turn.
“He’s so honest and polite and really a horse of a lifetime, with talent and a brain. He looks out for me and he looks after me incredibly well – he forgives all my mistakes!”
I also have to mention gorgeous little Oscar, Laura’s year old Jack Russell, who wanted to be the star of the show! Sooo adorable and such a poser.
I had so much fun on this shoot. As I’ve already told Laura, I did struggle to find a photo where she isn’t giggling. Laura just finds everything funny!! Lol! And it’s infectious. Thanks for having us, Laura, and for taking us to lunch in the sun. Both your boys were perfect models and made me job so easy. Hopefully see you again soon.
