A little while back I went over to Felsted to meet sisters, Rowan and Rhyannon and their two horses, for a joint shoot.

Ro has owned beautiful seven year-old Section D mare, Ryhdaman Duchess, or Adara, as she’s known at home, for just over a year.

Rowan had been on the hunt for a young pony that hadn’t done an awful lot and that she could start from the beginning, herself. Adara had been an in-hand show pony without much ridden experience and hadn’t been ridden for two years when Ro found her. So she was the perfect project.

With quite a nervous disposition, Rowan has spent a lot of time building Adara’s confidence and bringing her on slowly and gently. The pair are hoping to get out to local shows, dressage and try their hand at jumping in the future, but Ro says that Adara will be with her forever and that they aren’t in any rush.

Ro’s sister, Rhyannon, has owned her handsome boy, Dillon, for sixteen years. He is a twenty-two year old Irish Draft and Why was just thirteen when she bought him. She was looking for a 15hh bay Warmblood, but accidentally fell in love with Dillon. “I thought I would grow into him. Unfortunately, I didn’t and he has spent the last 16 years dragging me around!” Lol!

Rhy and Dillon have enjoyed dressage, jumping (but she says he isn’t built for jump-offs) and cross country. But despite his size, Dillon is a bit of a wimp and is scared of his own shadow. Although Rhyannon says that the dramas are becoming less frequent with age and his nervousness has now been replaced with naughtiness, at times, thanks to their strong bond, which has given him the confidence he lacked as a younger horse.

Thank you so much to this gorgeous gang, Rowan and Rhyannon, and of course, Adara and Dillon, for a really lovely shoot!
