My second stop, on my trip around North Wales was to see Sophie and her stunning mare, Gracie, in Conwy. Sophie and I have been trying to get this visit organised for years now, but due to one thing or another, it just hasn’t been able to happen until now. So I’m super pleased that I got to meet this pair!
Not to mention the fact that they have the most breathtaking views. The kind that you just don’t find down here in Essex, lol.
Sophie owns fifteen year-old, Hanoverian, Diamond Grace and their story is quite lovely.
Grace was bred by a friend of Sophie’s, who was kind enough to allow Sophie to have her on loan. However, when she announced that Gracie was going to have to be sold, Sophie had an immediate panic, but knew she just HAD to find the money to buy her.
That was seven year-ago and Sophie has been the proud owner of Gracie ever since. “She wasn’t the easiest in the early days and I remember numerous hacks where I came back saying I never wanted to ride her again!!” Sophie tells me. However, it seems that over the years, these two have certainly found their way together.
Gracie is now the ‘nanny’ horse on the yard, teaching the youngsters the ropes and she and Sophie love nothing more than flying round a cross country course, together.
Sophie tells me that they are aiming to get out to showjumping and hunter trials next year, but says that it’ll only happen if Gracie has her ‘brave pants’ on. Lol!
“She is absolutely my best friend in the world and I’d like to think she feels the same way about me!!”
I’m so glad to have finally met you guys and I hope it was worth the wait. I’m absolutely in love with Gracie’s little face, in these pictures. She was a natural poser and my camera loved her!
